Tonight my son told me that one of our computers had a trojan. He does not know what he did that installed it and only noticed it because of a popup at the bottom of the screeen with an exclamation mark on a yellow triangle. The Windows automatic update previously had IE 7 ready to install and that is on the machine now. Perhaps the trojan got in with IE7 but I doubt it. To be safe I will not put IE 7 on the machine I am using to write this message and have warned other family members to avoid clicking on the "yellow shield" that would install it.

Here is log of what I have done:

    1. Run AVG Free - it found Trojan horse Downloader.Zlob.HRZ and deleted C:\WINDOWS\system32\cwgppb.dll for me.

    2. Updated and ran AVG Anti-Spyware which quarantined a number of items infected with Adware.IntCodec and Adware.Generic

    3. Ran Spybot Search & Destroy - but I don't have the results now.

    4. Looked for something that could remove Zlob and found SpyHunter 2.8 which identified a number of things in my registry; Dialer.Faretoraci MediaMotor Mirar Toolbar and NetNucleus Toolbar plus the VideoAccess variant of Zlob. These were found by the free version of SpyHunter but (and I should have guessed this) can only be fixed if you buy the software.

While SpyHunter was running, the pop up at the bottom of the screen reported [email protected] and popped a window asking me to download a bunch of what I think is bogus software so I ignored it.

    5. Read about SmitfraudFix and downloaded it along with Hijack This. I ran SmitfraudFix in Safe Mode. Below is the output from both of the tools.

I hope that one of the experts in this forum will be able to advise what I should do next. In the mean time I have unplugged the machine from my home network.

It appears that Zlob is gone but do this

    Download Superantispyware (SAS)

    http://www.superantispyware.com/superantispywarefreevspro.html

Install it and double-click the icon on your desktop to run it.
    · It will ask if you want to update the program definitions, click Yes.
    · Under Configuration and Preferences, click the Preferences button.
    · Click the Scanning Control tab.
    · Under Scanner Options make sure the following are checked:
    o Close browsers before scanning
    o Scan for tracking cookies
o Terminate memory threats before quarantining.
o Please leave the others unchecked.
o Click the Close button to leave the control center screen.
    · On the main screen, under Scan for Harmful Software click Scan your computer.
    · On the left check C:\Fixed Drive.
    · On the right, under Complete Scan, choose Perform Complete Scan.
    · Click Next to start the scan. Please be patient while it scans your computer.
    · After the scan is complete a summary box will appear. Click OK.
    · Make sure everything in the white box has a check next to it, then click Next.
    · It will quarantine what it found and if it asks if you want to reboot, click Yes.
    · To retrieve the removal information for me please do the following:
o After reboot, double-click the SUPERAntispyware icon on your desktop.
o Click Preferences. Click the Statistics/Logs tab.
o Under Scanner Logs, double-click SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log.
o It will open in your default text editor (such as Notepad/Wordpad).
o Please highlight everything in the notepad, then right-click and choose copy.
    · Click close and close again to exit the program.
    · Please paste that information here for me with a new HijackThis log.

I've blocked the cookies in IE 7 as suggested.

I ran SUPERAntiSpyware again tonight and it was clean.
I also ran AVG Free and AVG Anti-Spyware both are clean.

Search & Destroy objected to SpyHunter which I have now uninstalled.

It looks like everything is fine now - thanks again for your help.
