    Hello,

I am connected to the internet through a SBV5120 SURFboard Cable Modem through Optimum Cable. I have Windows XP.

I have a couple of games that will not load. It tells me to check I am properly connected to the Internet. Also, my virus software ran out. I renewed it, and downloaded it. It will not allow me to install because it says it needs an internet connection. Most recently I tried to open up iTunes Music store, and it also tells me to check my internet connection. Obviously I am able to view webpages and chat on instant messenger.

I have tried resetting the modem by unplugging it for more than two minutes. I have tried disabling it. None of this seems to work. I have tried to seek help from Optimum support, but they gave me the unplugging modem suggestion.

I've been told to check for firewalls. My Windows Firewall is currently off. I also have Webroot Spysweeper. I tried shutting that down, but that didn't work either.

I've tried running cmd and putting ipconfig/release and then ipconfig/renew, but that didn't work.

If anyone has any solutions I would be most grateful as I have had this problem for a couple of weeks now.

    Thanks.

Sure sounds like a 3rd party firewall (internet security).

Configure it to allow the desired access or uninstall it.
