I was recently exploring the internet when I stumbled upon a suspicous website. The computer started popping up with strange website and other object which self installed onto teh computer. I went to Add/Remove Programs to try and remove the installed software, and then I went to reboot the computer.

Upon boot up it now it asks me to reinstall Windows (Windows 98 Upgrade) so I got out the cd and tried to enter the Product Key, and it tells me that it is now an invalid key. When I tried to boot into safe mode I get an explorer error and nothing loads.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Well, this computer that won't boot is my work computer.

So I ran home and got my Windows 98 SE CD-ROM and Product Key... and this Product Key will not work either. My guess is the virus has something to do with this. is it blocking me from putting a key into the computer

So I found a copy of norton rescue and ran it. After about 14 hours it said there was no virus.

Later then I booted and went to the same screen where it asked me to put in the Product Key. This time it accepted the key and then hung up on a gray screen when trying to reinstall.

Now its saying that my startup.exe is a corrupt file.

After that it i got this little blue screen asking for the Product ID again. So I entered it, and hit ok and next and then it said click finish to finish installing windows, and it looked like it was about to load then it came up with a Program Error. explorer.exe and wouldnt load

So Actually a simple Boot into Safe Mode with Command Prompt Only allowed me to do a

    C:\Windows\scanreg/restore

and restore it to the day before it happened. And then I just ran some AV software and Spyware software.
