Some of the images fail to show up; error drawing failed and no preview available. Can anything be done?

Thank you

JPEG image corruption is common due to: bad sectors in the storage media, virus infection, broken header of jpeg file. Anyways, would like you to try a jpeg repair tool so that you can load those images and run repair. If the images are repairable then the tool would show you the repaired preview of the jpeg file. You can try this activity for free. Also if you have no objection in showing those corrupt images, then you can paste it here. I will try to analyze with the help of Stellar Phoenix Jpeg Repair software else you can try at your end.

Thanks, I'll try that.

What preventive measures can I take in the future?
