hello folks,
i am interested in running linux and my questions are these:
a. i have a soltek sl-65liv-t motherboard and i checked the soltek site and it has no linux drivers for video/audio. are there generic drivers for these?
b. which is better, mandrake or fedora 3?

thanks.

a) you'd have to find the chipset for the audio/ video...depending on what they are linux will have drivers for them, possibly

b) matter of opinion, look at the benefits of both and then decide :p

This is a fairly old mobo so there should be some support.
The audio is AC'97 which is well supported.
The Trident Blade3D graphics engine has been around a while and should be supported. It was/is in Red Hat.
But, as we like to suggest, download and run the Knoppix live CD. It has excellent hardware detection and support and you'll get a good feel for using Linux with that. Mandrake's MandrakeMove and SUSE LiveCD/DVD are live CDs you could also try.

hey guys,
i downloaded knoppix off and i am running it as i am posting. i am using it with my soyo machine and it loaded all drivers for my hardware, impressive. i will try to play with this as much as i could to be familiarized and that soltek mobo will be running (experimental) linux soon.
so far so good. thanks.
