Hi and welcome to TSG.

I am reviewing your logs and will respond with a reply as soon as I can.

Please note that all my replies are reviewed by a qualified Analyst before I post. This ensures that you will continue to receive quality expert assistance.

Thank you for your patience.

my name is Daniel and I will be assisting you with your Malware related problems.

Before we move on, please read the following points carefully.
  • First, read my instructions completely. If there is anything that you do not understand kindly ask before proceeding.
  • Perform everything in the correct order. Sometimes one step requires the previous one.
  • If you have any problems while you are following my instructions, Stop there and tell me the exact nature of your problem.
  • Do not run any other scans without instruction or Add/ Remove Software unless I tell you to do so. This would change the output of our tools and could be confusing for me.
  • Post all Logfiles as a reply rather than as an attachment unless I specifically ask you. If you can not post all logfiles in one reply, feel free to use more posts.
  • If I don't hear from you within 3 days from this initial or any subsequent post, I will have to unsubscribe from this thread and move on to assist someone else.
  • Stay with me. I will give you some advice about prevention after the cleanup process. Absence of symptoms does not always mean the computer is clean.
  • My first language is not english. So please do not use slang or idioms. It could be hard for me to read. Thanks for your understanding.

Please download DeFogger to your desktop.

Double click DeFogger to run the tool.
  • The application window will appear
  • Click the Disable button to disable your CD Emulation drivers
  • Click Yes to continue
  • A 'Finished!' message will appear
  • Click OK
  • DeFogger will now ask to reboot the machine - click OK
IMPORTANT! If you receive an error message while running DeFogger, please post the log defogger_disable which will appear on your desktop.

Do not re-enable these drivers until otherwise instructed.

Please download Gmer from here and save it to your Desktop.
  • Double click on the randomly named GMER.exe. If asked to allow gmer.sys driver to load, please consent.
  • If it gives you a warning about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run on NO.

Click the image to enlarge it

  • In the right panel, you will see several boxes that have been checked. Uncheck the following ...
    • Sections
    • IAT/EAT
    • Drives/Partition other than Systemdrive (typically C:\)
    • Show All (don't miss this one)
  • Then click the Scan button & wait for it to finish.
  • Once done click on the [Save..] button, and in the File name area, type in "ark.txt" or it will save as a .log file which cannot be uploaded to your post.
  • Save it where you can easily find it, such as your desktop

Rootkit scans often produce false positives. Do NOT take any action on any "<--- ROOKIT" entries

Please post in your next reply

As it's important to reply in a timely manner when dealing with malware, and even more so when a trainee is assisting so as not to hinder their progress, please note that due to your failure to reply, Larusso will be moving on to help others who are patiently waiting for assistance. I will revert the thread status back to "NEW" and leave it open until it automatically closes due to inactivity. :)

I am so sorry, my brother was in a car accident which has occupied me for several days. I did the frogger but the gmer link does not work.

Thank you. My responses will be more timely. I have work tomorrow so I can post later tomorrow night. The following site opens many windows in IE even though I use firefox. It opens them continuously until my CPU usage cant handle it anymore. the link being opened is:[id]=35&width=90

Problem persisting. I shut down my comp and got the blue screen of death. Didn't have enough time to read what it said. Upon next restart I loaded windows in safe mode then into normal mode. No more blue screen. Currently switiching to google chrome in the meanwhile

Sorry for the delay. School is keeping me busy.

Gmer looks unavailable at the moment so lets run different scans.

Please Download Rootkit Unhooker and save it to your desktop.
  • Now double-click on RKUnhookerLE.exe to run it.
  • Click the Report tab, then click Scan.
  • Please check (Tick)
    • Drivers
    • Stealth
    Uncheck the rest.
  • Click OK.
  • Wait till the scanner has finished and then click File, Save Report.
  • Save the report somewhere where you can find it. Click Close.
Copy the entire contents of the report and paste it in a reply here.

Note** you may get the following warning, just click OK and continue.

"Rootkit Unhooker has detected a parasite inside itself!
It is recommended to remove parasite, okay?"

Please download aswMBR.exe and save it to your desktop.
  • Double click aswMBR.exe to start the tool.
Vista/Windows 7 users: Right click to "Run as Administrator"

  • The tool may ask you
This application can use AVAST! Free Antivirus to scanning
Would you like to download latest AVAST! virus definitions ?
    Please click No

  • Click Scan
  • Upon completion of the scan, click Save log and save it to your desktop, and post the aswmbr.txt in your next reply for review. Note - do NOT attempt any Fix yet.
  • You will also notice another file created on the desktop named MBR.dat. Right click that file and select Send To>Compressed (zipped) file. Attach that zipped file in your next reply as well.

Please post in your next reply

Computer worsening. svchost will use all memory upon opening firefox. Computer sometimes giving blue screen of death that only shows for 1 second. Overall progams are opening up and acting strange. Problems seem to only worsen.

Hy there,

Am I right that the redirections only happens with Firefox ?

Please download and scan with ComboFix.exe. Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running the tool:

Note: Ensure you have disabled all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
You can use this thread as a guide.

Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply for further review.

Please post in your next reply
How is your system behaving now ?

Can this scan be done in safe mode?

My computer was running really badly the other day. Sound card was suddenly not detected - no audio. svchost and firefox would take up all my memory. I go to restart my computer and then I get the blue screen of death upon boot. Theres no way for me to give you the blue screen of death's report because it only flashes for a quick second. No way to use the computer unless I run it in safe mode. Not sure, but I am going to try and readjust some hardware. Possibly remove the sound card, and ram that I have had problems with in the past.

Did scan anyways. Followed the guide as best I could considering I'm in safe mode. txt attached

Hy there,
If think your MBR is still infected so we have to check it. There is a chance that this will fix your other issues.
If you can only work in Safemode /networksupport then it is okay.
Please do not attach logs - it is easier for reference if they are simply posted into the thread - thanks.

Please answer my questions as they help me to find a solution.
Am I right that the redirections only happens with Firefox ?
do you expire any redirections in Safe Mode ?
Are you able to burn a CD or create a bootable USB Stick from a second clean PC ?

With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have the Windows Recovery Console pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal.

The Windows Recovery Console will allow you to boot up into a special recovery (repair) mode. This allows us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware. It is a simple procedure that will only take a few moments of your time.

Go to Microsoft's website =>

Scroll down to Step 1, and select the download that's appropriate for your Operating System. Download the file & save it as it's originally named.

Note: If you have SP3, use the SP2 package.

Transfer all files you just downloaded, to the desktop of the infected computer.

Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools

  • Drag the setup package onto ComboFix.exe and drop it.
  • Follow the prompts to start ComboFix and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Recovery Console.

  • At the next prompt, click 'Yes' to run the full ComboFix scan.
  • When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you.
Please post the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.
