yesterday I tried to download spybot search and destroy from one of its mirror sites (a german one) when norton went bonkers saying it had just blocked a trojan, but it said it so fast i didnt have time to jot down the name.

I couldnt download spybot and since then everytime i try to get to the microsoft website i get redirected to a site called hotchilli.com but the address bar says www.microsoft.com.

I have just done a full sweep with norton (did update profiles before) and it came up clean. I'm doing an adware scan but as I am unable to download spybot (tried to do it with cnet as well) I cant see what is going on.

    PS

I have just attempted to download it again from cnet and this is the report norton gave me.

Norton has just blocked the following: sokets de trois V1 Trojan Horse.

Spybot is legit so why am I having these problems??????
    any ideas??

    Cheers

    Nicky

    Hi Nicky,

Anything that starts redirecting your pages is going to be a baddie. Could you please download 'Hijack This!' from http://www.spywareinfo.com/files/hijackthis.zip
Unzip, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan". When the scan is finished, click "Save Log", and copy and paste it in a reply.

This will give us a rundown of what’s going on in your PC. One of us here will be glad to analyse it for you. Don’t fix anything yourself yet, as a lot of the stuff on that list will be harmless or required.

If you have difficulty in downloading this as well, then do it from a friend's machine, and put it on a floppy disc. It's only a small program.

    Cheers

    Liam

I read a few posts so I see you like to have the hihgjack this file so it is included below.
My problem is Norton found a trojan and a worm...
    I see js.menger.worm
    and trojan.byteverify

I can't tell if norton wiped it out and I am still having problem with my system being slow.... running xp on a dell 2350. It is in backup on norton but when it was found I thought it said it can't be repaired so I'm not sure... should I delete it?

    Thanks much
