What songs or lyrics say something about you? Whether it be just a point in your life, or maybe everything about it, list the songs or lyrics that describe you.

Why, why, why-- by Billy Currington

"Walkin' away, I saw a side of you
That I knew was there all along.
And that some-day I'd say good-bye to you
'Cause one right can still make two wrongs.
Not for each other, not from the start
The diff'rence was day and night.
My finest hour was spent here with you in the dark,
Was just before I saw the light." From Walkin' Away by Clint Black

Girl Next Door--By Saving Jane

And finally....(for now anyway;) )

I'm No Angel--Greg Allman Band

lotta jackson browne stuff strikes a chord with me
this is the first one the came to mind
Everybody I talk to is ready to leave
With the light of the morning
Theyve seen the end coming down long enough to believe
That theyve heard their last warning
Standing alone
Each has his own ticket in his hand
And as the evening descends
I sit thinking bout everyman

Seems like Ive always been looking for some other place
To get it together
Where with a few of my friends I could give up the race
And maybe find something better
But all my fine dreams
Well though out schemes to gain the motherland
Have all eventually come down to waiting for everyman

Waiting here for everyman--
Make it on your own if you think you can
If you see somewhere to go I understand
Waiting here for everyman--
Dont ask me if hell show -- baby I dont know

Make it on your own if you think you can
Somewhere later on youll have to take a stand
Then youre going to need a hand

Everybodys just waiting to hear from the one
Who can give them the answers
And lead them back to that place in the warmth of the sun
Where sweet childhood still dances
Wholl come along
And hold out that strong and gentle fathers hand?
Long ago I heard someone say something bout everyman

Waiting here for everyman--
Make it on your own if you think you can
If you see somewhere to go I understand

Im not trying to tell you that Ive seen the plan
Turn and walk away if you think I am--
But dont think too badly of one whos left holding sand
Hes just another dreamer, dreaming bout everyman

Ben Kweller .. Thirteen

We've been in the rain
We've been on the mountain
We've been round the fire

In fancy hotels
Drank water from farm wells
We sang with the choir

I kissed your dry lips
We jumped off the high cliffs
And splashed down below

Skin to skin
In the salty river
Made love in the shadow
Woooah ooh

Read books to each other
Read the mind of the other
Flew one thousand jets

We laughed and we cried
At movies and real life
At our ridiculous bets

We danced in the moonlight at midnight
We pressed against back doors and wooden floors
And you never faked it

And infrequently
We ignored our love
But we could never mistake it
Oooh ooh

We met on the front porch
Fell in love on the phone
Without the physical wreck

You gave me the necklace
That used to hang
Around your mothers neck

We questioned religions
Fed bread to the pigeons
We learned how to pray

We stood by the ocean
Turned our hearts in to one
We laid in bed all day
Heeey

We skipped on the sidewalk
Skipped stones on the water
We skipped town

We've seen the sunrise with new eyes
We've seen the damage of gossip and true lies
We've seen the sun go down

Had passionate makeouts
And passionate freakouts
We built this world of our own

It was in the back of a taxi
When you told me you loved me
And that I wasn't alone.

Two songs I love and that kept me company in my mind when I was sick...simple in words and tune

White Bird..................

White bird,
in a golden cage,
on a winter's day,
in the rain.

White bird,
in a golden cage,
alone.

The leaves blow,
Across the long black road.
To the darkened skies,
in its rage

But the white bird just sits in her cage,
unknown.

White bird must fly
Or she will die

White bird,
dreams of the aspen trees,
with their dying leaves,
turning gold.

But the white bird just sits in her cage,
growing old.

White bird must fly or she will die.
White bird must fly or she will die.

The sunsets come, the sunsets go.
The clouds roll by,and the earth turns old.
And the young bird's eyes do always glow.

She must fly,
She must fly,
She must fly.

White bird,
In a golden cage,
On a winter's day, in the rain.

White bird,
In a golden cage alone.

White bird must fly or she will die.
White bird must fly or she will die.
White bird must fly or she will die.

----------------------------------------------------

Hummingbird.................

Oh hummingbird, mankind was waiting for you to come flying along.
Heavenly songbird, we were so wrong. We've harmed you.
Oh hummingbird, lend us your wings. Let us soar in the atmosphere of Abha.
Lift us up to the heaven of holiness, oh source of our being, oh hummingbird.

Hummingbird don't fly away, fly away. Hummingbird don't fly away, fly away.
In you I've found a fragrance. I'll love you 'til I die.
I just love you, love you, love you. I don't even know the reason why.
Hummingbird don't fly away, fly away. Hummingbird don't fly away, fly away.
The sweetness of your nectar has drawn me like a fly.
I just love you, love you, love you. I don't even know the reason why. Now,
Hummingbird don't fly away, fly away. Hummingbird don't fly away, fly away.

Haven't you noticed the days somehow keep getting longer?
And the spirit voices whisper in us all.
Haven't you noticed the rays? The spirit sun in stronger
And a new day is dawning for us all.

Hummingbird don't fly away, fly away. Hummingbird don't fly away, fly away.
Hummingbird don't fly away, fly away. Hummingbird don't fly away, fly away.
The draught of understanding; wisdom, peace and love is ours.
Hummingbird don't fly away, fly away. Hummingbird don't fly away, fly away.

Soul Coughing - Sleepless

I got the will to drive myself sleepless.

So much time is cashed.
So much smoke is wasted.
Sudden disappearance
In the air is thick and cool.
I can't approach myself
Skidding over this perdition
And now I'm out on the verandah
When I should have gone to school.

I got the will to drive myself sleepless.

Well I call for sleep,
But sleep it won't come to me.
Shuffling in the hallway,
I can hear him on the stairs.
I hear his lighter flicking.
I hear the soft sigh of his inhale.
And the whole width of my intentions
He exhales into the air.

I got the will to drive myself sleepless.

Skeedunt, stunt the runt,
Smoking buddha blunt.

I got the will to drive myself sleepless.

A little bit of you lovin’ up on me
And a little bit of how it supposed to be
A little bit of life

A little bit of backseat
A little bit of moon
A little bit of radio, a goin’ boom boom boom

A little bit of nasty, A little bit of nice
A little bit of how it supposed to be
A little bit of life

Chorus:

Yes sleepin all night with the windows down
Up in the mornin’ stirin around
Drink a pot of coffee and I head off to town
Work Work, Work
All day long, crank it up, back it up, bring it on home
Supper on the table and I eat me a bite,
Then we snuggle on the porch by the pale moon light

A little bit of swing
A little bit of wind chimes goin ding a ling

"Wandrin' Star" from "Paint Your Wagon"

I was born under a wandrin' star
I was born under a wandrin' star
Wheels are made for rolling, mules are made to pack
I've never seen a sight that didn't look better looking back
I was born under a wandrin' star

Mud can make you prisoner and the plains can bake you dry
Snow can burn your eyes, but only people make you cry
Home is made for coming from, for dreams of going to
Which with any luck will never come true
I was born under a wandrin' star
I was born under a wandrin' star

Do I know where hell is, hell is in hello
Heaven is goodbye forever, its time for me to go
I was born under a wandrin' star
A wandrin' wandrin' star

(Mud can make you prisoner and the plains can bake you dry)
(Snow can burn your eyes, but only people make you cry)
(Home is made for coming from, for dreams of going to)
(Which with any luck will never come true)
(I was born under a wandrin' star)
(I was born under a wandrin' star)

When I get to heaven, tie me to a tree
Or I'll begin to roam and soon you'll know where I will be
I was born under a wandrin' star
A wandrin' wandrin' star

For some reason this also reminds me of Wino:eek:

Hi LuckyStrike,

Your song tells me something : I recall a western movie in which Lee Marvin was singing ' I was born under a wandrin' star '. Is it the same song ?

hehehe.
Queen and Metallica said:
Sleeping very soundly on a saturday morning
I was dreaming I was al capone
Rumors going round, gotta clear out of town
Smell like a dry fishbone
Here come the law, gonna break down the door
Carry me away once more
Never, never, never want it anymore
Gotta get away from this stone cold floor
Crazy, stone cold crazy, yo

Rainy afternoon, ought to kill a typhoon
And shes playing on my slide trombone
Anymore, anymore, cannot take it anymore
Gotta get away from this stone cold floor
Crazy, stone cold crazy, yo, hey

Walking down the street, shooting people that I meet
Fully loaded tommy gun
Here come the deputy, try ****ing getting me
Gotta ****ing get up and run
They got the sirens loose, I ran right out of juice
Theyre gonna put me in a cell
If I cant go to heaven, let me go to hell
Crazy, stone cold crazy, yo, yeah

Not sure there's an entire song that can describe a person. I could extract lines from them though which would be very accurate.....................

"You gave me nothing now that's all I've got" from U2s 'One' to anyone who made a false promise of anything or told me I was cute but never backed it up.

"If love is a drug then I don't need it" From the Verves 'This is music' explaining my opinions about drugs not being any substitute for anything - particularly love or companionship.

Then there are certain lyrics that I like to turn on the person who sang them as if to say "Yeah - and perhaps you'd (meaning a representative of your grouping) like to set a practical example for a change" (read recent posts in other threads about this). It's questioning the integrity of a lyric that is supposed to sum up the human condition about certain situations.

Important to remember here though is that you are you and a singer is them and although they might make accurate observations about life (sometimes even quite personal ones) they are just songs - and that is all. Having said that though it's still useful to have a well known line from a famous band or artiste to emphasise a point you want to make to people!
