After visiting the Sony website to download the bios patch for my Sony Vaio PCG F304 model in order for it to accept Windows 2000 I have encountered what I think is a major problem....

I followed all the procedures set out by Sony and the bios patch stated that all was successful and the computer will now be powered down.

It is now that I have my problem.

Nothing works anymore, i.e

1:No battery charging takes place.
2:All computer activity is lost.
3:No power on after sliding power switch, inc fan or drives..

Sony say its a coincidence...hmmm I think not as it only happened after the bios flash and everything was fine prior to that.

Please help a seriously gutted person if poss...

Sounds like sony is not going to be much help.

Only thing I can think of is to remove the cmos battery or reset the cmos somehow to defaults and hope it will boot.

pm from gbcom

I have tried the battery thing already without success plus various instances of pressing the rest button. Sony said they would help but at a price and knowing sony it would be cheaper to buy a new laptop.

Wish I could help more, but I have no idea, maybe someone else has some input.

Just a suggestion.
You may want to try powering up with only the AC connected and the main battery removed. I have seen where a bad battery will prevent booting (on a dell). BOL

Removing the battery won't reset a BIOS to it's old settings once it's flashed. Most BIOS flash utilities ask you if you want to back up the old BIOS for just this reason. I think the only way to get it fixed is to send the BIOS chip in for re-programming, but you will probably have to send the whole laptop in. Good Luck.
