I would like to attach a camera to my computer (Compaq Persario w/windows xp) so that I can record audio and video. I would like to be able to have this start recording when it detects sound. Can you recomend the type camera and program that I could use?

I don't know of any computer software that records based on sound activation. There may be some...just not a common PC option.

Here is some great software, however it is visually activated not sound.
    A simple tutorial
I will continue to look for a sound activated version but try this out.

I honestly haven't heard of a webcam activated by sound, as many didn't record sound until a few years ago. Most are visually activated because of the many false positives that can be generated. EX: A loud bus drives by your house activating your recorder.....
There is most likely a system out there but none cheap
