We just bought a new sound card. We are running Win XP Pro. When we install the soundcard, no matter which slot we use, it always freezes the mouse and sometimes even the computer itself once we boot up :(

Is there anything that we can do to resolve this problem?

Next time your mouse freezes or your computer freezes upon next boot right-click "My Computer" and choose "Manage".

Check the "Event Viewer" and look for error messages that might be associated with your soundcard and post them here.

Are you saying you can never use the mouse? In that case, you can navigate there with some shortcut keys.

I tried that, but that's when the computer freezes up :(

I'm wondering if it has to do with th SP2 update. Don't know how to get around it

Heh, well, that doesn't help any. Maybe boot up with bootlog, and see if your getting any errors in there.

Hey Chicken. What kind of sound card did you have before?
If it is onboard did you disable it before you installed the new one?
Did you remove all the drivers for the old sound card?
Has the computer ever acted right since you installed the new one?

Try this. Remove the sound card and boot up. Remove all the drivers for all sound cards and DO not reboot. Then go to device manager and remove all sound devices.
Shut the machine down and install the card.
When it comes back up go into the bios and if you have onboard sound disable it. If you don't have onboard , forget going into the bios and just come into windows and install the drivers for the new card. Hopefully it will work.

Creative Labs Live Platinum 5.1. We can't use it because their web site is messed up and you can't download drivers, so that's why we got this new card.

We removed the old drivers and the card before working with this new one.

    Yes.

No. I don't see how they expect you to install this if you can't even install drivers :D

Been there. Tried that. I'm thinking it might be a defective card.

Try their European site, I was able to download all my Creative drivers from there a few weeks ago.
