Sound module on GA-HGIM DS2 DVI mobo has failed. Have tried to find a PCI Express x1 slot card but as running XP32 BIT there are no drivers available. Does anybody know of a sound card that has drivers for XP 32 BIT. If none then a USB sound card would seem to be the answer. Most cover Mic and speakers but how can the sound from internal DVD player be handled?
The Gigabyte GA-H61M-DS2 is an Intel chip-based 3rd generation motherboard.
Windows XP SP3 32-bit can be installed and will run fine in it.
It has a Realtek ALC887 High Definition Audio integrated sound device.
The appropriate sound driver for it is located in the "Support - Downloads" section of its support site. https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/GA-H61M-DS2-rev-10#ov
This motherboard has several revision numbers.
Which revision number is yours?
If you need to add a dedicated sound card in it, it has 2 PCI Express x1 slots.
Make sure you select a sound card that fits in that particular slot and which supports Windows XP SP3 32-bit.
You will probably have good luck with one of the Creative Lab models. https://www.newegg.com/p/pl?N=100161258 50001137 600011982 1100858365
I provided you with what I can, based on what you said in post #1.
You appear to be unsatisfied and irritated by my response to you in post #1, so I'll leave you with the others here.
My question was in relation to a PCI Express 1 card. Your personal experience can only relate to a PCI card. Creative Labs. do not support Windows XP32 bit on any PCI Express 1card.

That is handled by the OS and the firmware of the DVD player. A internal/built-in sound chip or an aftermarket add on card facilitates the process to external speakers.
I understand you feel the answer wasn't very helpful to you but we won't tolerate rudness or disrespect towards other members for any reason so please be mindful of this in the future.
I apologise unreservedly if you consider I have been rude or shown disrespect. None was intended. I thought i was just pointing out the replies that I received simply did not cover the question and a further reply was not relevant to the issue.
Xonar DX; pci-e 1 and xp drivers are available.
That motherboard is now 9yr old and it is almost never cost effective to repair hardware of that age. Up to you IF you want to invest the money.

You are so right. I am doing it for a neighbour and the Zoostorm I set up for them is 7 years old but still very good apart from the sound module on the motherboard.. They are old and would never get their heads round that sound card, I think a simple USB sound card will take care of their mic .and speakers. Whether it is possible to fit a lead from the DVD player to swop with the Mic. is something that I will have to look at. Do you know if this is possible?
