Windows XP - Home Edition; Pentium 3 550.

I have speakers plugged into the sound card but would like to use earphones at times. Is it necessary to power down the computer before swapping them out?

    Thanks,

    dd

No. You can swap jacks on a sound card just like on a radio.

Yes. While it is running. But you may want to turn the volume down so the surge doesn't damage the small earphone speakers.
