I have a Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS and an integrated Realtek HD motherboard audio in my computer. For over a year now, I've used both in complete harmony. I'd use my Sound Blaster for my speakers and microphone, and my Realtek for headphones. I could use one for input and the other for output with no problems at all up until a few hours ago.

I opened my Sound and Audio Devices to swap my output to Realtek so I could listen to some music on my headphones, clicked apply, and closed it and heard no sound. So, I went into my options to find out my changes didn't stick. After a few tries more, I realized something was wrong and I could not change my primary audio device. After much tampering and uninstalling of recent programs that I had installed, I decided to remove and reinstall the audio drivers and utilities for both devices. It didn't really get me anywhere, and now it simply won't let me change my primary audio device to my Sound Blaster card rather than vise-versa. If I have a program like Ventrilo specifically select one of the cards, it works fine. I just can't switch em' around in my Control Panel options. Windows is up-to-date, as are the drivers. Use only default devices does nothing if I uncheck it.

System Specs:
Intel Pentium IV 3.2
1024 DDR-RAM
P4P800 Motherboard
Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS
x800 XT PCI-Express

Good evening hellyeah17, having two sound systems in a machine is very nice but if you load some odd program from time to time or a bug gets in the system this is what happens.
I usually suggest reverting to one or the other.
Others will have different ideas.
Cheers qldit.

I'm fairly into online gaming, and with online gaming comes voice communication. I tend to have the sound from people's voices coming out on my headphones, while the speakers display the sound from the game in 5.1. I've basically grown completely attached to the setup, and I'd find it very difficult to simply use one of my sound devices. Thanks for the advice, regardless.
