This is about sound issues from the computer as in cant get sound from the comptuer.
Went to computer properties then multi media controller has yellow question mark next to it so tried to update driver it goes to the wizard but it will not find any drivers for it without a cd which dont have.
Tried roll back drivers says no drivers are backed up on file.
Went to sound audio video game controllers audio codecs says all the codecs are working for this computer.
Control panel sound audio says no sound device is connected.
Its also a problem because cannot access volume control either as media controller are not installed.
Thought it might be a motherboard issue so went to download to everest and got the chipset drivers for it.
That was simple enough but when went to foxconn and installed audio drivers for the motherboard because think it runs through the motherboard foxconn P4M800P7M8 from foxconn site.
The sound card is realtek ALC655 AC 97 enhanced audio controller.
Again got these drivers from foxxconn and exactly same issues.
Extracted the files easily enough from wizard but when go to exe run folder the run it says cannot find setupfilex.dll
Then go to gxdver it dont do anything.
Go to exe icon run and logger then it goes cannot run please find the setup exe file from the directory.
In the folders cannot seem to find anything that will install the actual drivers without a conflicting issue somewhere.
So everytime download this compressed driver folders for the drivers it has problems when the files are extracted.
The sound card is enabled and mutli media controller says code 28 drivers not installed.
So done a windows xp update so it could use that to find the right software installed the latest update same thing.
Its all plugged in and the cable from speakers is plugged in.
Could it be a bios setting havent changed nothing there.
Dont no what else to try.
Because harddrive crashed again have had to do a fresh install of xp and before sound worked fine this is the first time since buying computer over year ago its done this.

Go into device manager and delete the yellow question mark . Reboot and windows should say it found new hardware . When it ask if it should search for the drivers say no and direct it to the drivers you just downloaded . I had to go one step farther and go into Sound Video and game controlers and delete the sound from there and reboot and then reload .

How on earth is the yellow question mark deleted thats not possible with right hand click just get update driver properties uninstall and enable disable.
So go to uninstall yellow and the multimedia controller icon goes with yellow question mark.
There isnt anywhere to designate the extracted files to it doesnt give an option its just a set up icon then run and its done.
So how can direct wizard to these extracted files.

Uninstall and delete do about the same thing . It is no longer there . can you extract the drivers to a specified folder ? If you can then do that and then follow the steps above .

Right went to program files then went to realtek and in realtek ac 97 folder it has audio in which theres nothing in that and install shield.
Then go to add hardware wizard and it has dont search do it manually so do that but when select install shield folder on desktop it says hardware wizard cannot find drivers.
All the extraction files are extracted and that mmedia controller is gone now with the yellow mark.
The drivers are installed for xp but not able to designate wizard to them.

    Dylan ,
You might want to burn that zip file to a CD and save it for a rainy day . Never can tell when you need a reinstall .
