Sound problem with Compaq Presario SR5510F

    Hello,

    The sound on my 3-month old Compaq Presario SR5510F is not functioning at all. I cannot hear the sound on webcasts. There is no sound on clips on the internet, including videos. I cannot hear any music playback ;and now, I cannot hear persons that I chat with on the Skype, though they hear me when I speak.

    I took the computer to the Geek Squad today at BEST BUY. They tested it with their accessories and told me all was fine. I bought a new headset and external speakers. When I returned home and connected these, together with my DELL monitor, to the computer, there again was no sound.

    It is very frustrating not having the sound as I do conferencing on Skype and Go To Meeting quite frequently. I have one on Monday morning. I need and will appreciate your help for solution.

    Have you tried reinstalling the drivers for your soundcard?

    To do so you must first uninstall the current drivers by starting a run dialog (Either Start > Run or by holding down the windows key and pressing "R") and typing in:

    devmgmt.msc

    You find your sound card/audio device, right click, go to properties, and under the driver tab select "uninstall."

    Then download and install the correct driver:

    if that doesn't work, try this one:
