I can't get the sound to work. I upgraded to XP pro from 98 I've got a brand new hard drive, I know the sound card is good and so are my speakers. I have the drivers and everything shows as working....but no sound. When I reboot it starts to play the music then shuts off.

So in the Device Manager, your sound controller drivers are installed and not reporting any errors right?

And you say there is sound when you boot, is it the windows startup/shutdown music?

Yes, that's correct I can hear the windows startup music, but only for a second, then it quits.

Try putting headphones into the sound jack, in other words try to eliminate the actual speakers as the problem.

A driver conflict maybe causing the problem. I usually fix the problem by deleting all sound devices within Device Manager and reboot. Windows will re-discover them and you should select "Have Disk" and use the latest new drivers you downloaded.
