I hooked up a friends laptop to his TV through a VGA cable and I remember getting sound. Hes an older guy and like his laptop on his lap across the room while watching everything on the TV. But now I cant seem to figure out how I did it. Is it even possible?

Is there a way to get sound on the TV through just a VGA cable?

And I wasnt just hearing the sound coming from the laptop.. haha

Nope, you cannot get sound through VGA, video only.

You need a separate audio cable from the headphone/speaker jack to the TV to get audio.

HDMI on the other hand can carry video and audio.
