On sunday, my sound was fine. No problems. Today nothing. I have tried reloading, rolling back, updating the driver for the sound card (soundblaster live) but nothing changed. In device manager it showed up that everything was fine, no ! or red X's. I found a few different solutions online like changing the machine.inf file and uninstalling and reinstalling quicktime. now when i start itunes i get the error "itunes has detected a problem with your audio configuration. Audio/Video playback may not operate properly" when i go to adjust the volume it tells me that there are no active mixer devices available. Before i did the quick fixes my settings in control panel>sounds and audio devices showed that my soundblaster was the default. Now it is listed as NO AUDIO DEVICE. the area to select a different device in the audio tab is greyed out and won't let me chose anything. What the heck is going on?
    Thanks in advance

You may have already but try reseating and/or placing the card in a different PCI slot also.

If that fails consider and troubleshoot for a possible dead sound card. Try going back to onboard audio if available or temporarilly replacing it with a known working card from another system.

Have you tried right clicking and choosing 'uninstall'?

When you reboot, Windows will reinstall the required drivers automatically.

it doesnt seem to be a problem with the card. The pc recognizes it in device mgr and is telling me that its working properly. should i still try to uninstall it. Refresh my memory, if i unseat it and put it into a new slot, do i need to shut the pc down or can i do it while its running?

i tried the soundcard in a new slot but it didn't work. still no sound. now i have yellow ! in the device manager.
    Microsoft Kernel Accoustic Canceller
Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware because there is a duplicate device already running in the system. (Code 42)

    And
    Microsoft Kernel Audio Splitter
Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware because there is a duplicate device already running in the system. (Code 42)

I still dont have the option of selecting my soundcard in the sounds and audiodevices>audio tab.
Do i need a new card?
Plus!! Itunes is still telling me that it has detected a problem with my audio configuration.
    Thanks
