Hi,
I pulled a sound card out of an old 1995 system and put it into another machine. It was not detected at start-up so I had to do a manual detection using "Add New Hardware".

It detected, it gives me a choice of "MS System Sound" or "Soundblaster or compatible". Whichever I choose, both appear in the Device Manager "Sound" heading. And in both cases, the "Soundblaster or compatible" subheading has a "!" on a yellow background. The error message is as follows:

Windows could not identify all the resources this device uses. (Code 16)

To specify additional resources for this device, click the Resources tab and fill in the missing settings. Check your hardware documentation to find out what settings to use.

I thought it was genuine Soundblaster 16 so I downloaded the drivers from soundblaster.com. But now,it doesn't seem like it's genuine, the word CREATIVE does not appear on the card and the chipset is "Analog Devices SoundPort AD90609 1848".

There is, of course, no sound, although when I go to play a wav file, it "plays" (nothing is muted on the volume controls). Driverguide does not have a driver for Analog Devices SoundPort AD90609 1848.

Any suggestions?

WHat does the audio chipset say on the card? Most SB cards also have the model # screened on the board. Look at the cards I/O, IRQ and DMA settings in Device Manager...something is in conflict with another card or device.
