Hi,I was wondering if lousy sound cards could lead to speakers emmitng cracking noises even at a low volume ? I have a pair of Altecs so im sure it isnt my speakers that cause the cracking.

could be speakers as a damaged speaker will do that.

try making sure all the speaker wires external and internal are routed away as much as possible from other devices.

Sometimes overdriving the windows volume control will cause this.
Turn the windows master volume down and the speaker volume up

I would suggest turning the Volume Control almost all the way down and the Wave control all the way up. See if that helps.
