I turned on my laptop today and noticed that there is no sound. In the bottom right hand corner of the screen the speaker icon now has a red X on it. When i hover over it with the mouse it says, No Audio Output Device Installed. But it was working perfectly fine yesterday. How do i resolve this? Thanks.

You can use System Restore to put your back back to yesterday. Or you can download and reinstall the sound drivers. If you need help finding the correct drivers you need to post the exact model of your laptop and the version of Windows you have, ie Vista 32 bit or Windows 7 64 bit, etc

You should be able to go to the local Packard Bell website and download the audio drivers to reinstall.

Enter your serial number here: http://support.packardbell.com/uk/

If you go to Device Manager, does it show any errors there? Does it show the sound card there and if so what does it call it?

The sound card is not visible in the Device Manager.

Is there an unknown device? Can you show us a screenshot of Device Manager with the Audio section expanded?
