My daughter is looking at buying a new laptop, and we are comparing her current one's specs with new ones available, but neither of us know what the "599MHz" means on her current laptop!

This image is what we are comparing, is the "599 HMz" on her current laptop comparable to the "533HMz FSB" on the one for sale?

The lower number on the new one wouldnt mean a large downgrade in specs would it? All the other specs are higher apart from this one.

well the new one would be a close match to the current one she owns other then the new one has more memory then the old one. And has a slightly faster cpu. Only thing id wonder is how big is your hardrive on your current laptop compared to one your buying.

Her current is 80GB, as is the new one.

But what does the "599MHz" mean? 1.70GHz is the processor speed, so what does the "599MHz" mean?!

im guessing the 599mhz is the fsb were other one is 533fsb but runs 1.72ghz you wont see much differnce if any The extra ram alone will make up for it probly.
