I'm getting the same "Specified service does not exist as an installed service." when I try to run various programs from my computer. I tried the method listed in the earlier forum regarding the registry edit (regedit) and the configuration but to no avail.

I'm getting this on various programs I try to open. Any suggestions???

By the way, I'm probably what would be considered a lay-man in the terms of manipulating and troubleshooting computers and the OS, so please be gentle with me.

    Thanks,

    Tom

I tried the sfc/scannow command in the Start/Run box and it found nothing.

I searched for sfc and it pulled up a program. I tried to double-click it and right click/open and the screen flashes like a program is trying to open and then closes (i.e. nothing happened each time).

    Try this fix: EXEFIX

Unzip the fix and extract the .REG file to the Desktop. Right-click the .REG file and choose Merge. Note that you need to be an Administrator to apply this fix.

    Reboot the computer.

If the fix only opens as a text file, right-click it and select Open With > Choose Program... Then, select the Registry Editor.

If the Registry Editor is not in the list, browse to C:\WINDOWS and select regedit.

Press the Windows key + R to open a Run box.

Copy the following command and paste it in the Run box and click OK:

    Code:

    cmd /k reg query "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E967-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}" /s

Next, copy (right-click and Select All > press Enter) the entire content of the command prompt output and paste it into your next reply.

What exactly did you do before this problem started? Did you install or uninstall anything?

Does the problem persist in Safe Mode?

Please click HERE to download and install HijackThis.

Run it and select Do a system scan and save a logfile from the Main Menu.

The log will be saved in Notepad. Copy and paste the log in your next post.

    IMPORTANT: Do not fix anything
