Ok so my 2 week old laptop as suddenly became really slow and CPU usage says 100% but when I look most are 0% with 5 or so things with about 1-8% so I dunno what is happening.
Although if I system restore from before all the Vista service pack 2 updates happened then it is quite a bit better, though still sometimes laggy.

Also my sound is sometimes messed up and all fuzzy, I dunno if this is linked to the speed issue or not.

    All the specs etc:

Please click here to download and install version 2.0.2 of the HijackThis Installer.

Run it (as Administrator) and select Do a system scan and save a logfile.

The log will be saved in Notepad. Copy and paste the log in your next post.

    Do not fix anything

Thanks for coming to help Phantom.
I updated back to service pack two with all the updates so we can check from their rather than SP1, though I also updated my BIOs to the next version and it's actually quite a bit better and is only behaving about as laggy as with SP1 if not a little better.
Anyways heres the stuff you wanted:

You have too many Startup applications loading with Windows. This can significantly increase your Startup time and affect overall performance.

    Please download and run Autoruns.

    Click on Options.

Put a check mark on Hide Microsoft and Windows Entries.

Hit the F5 key to refresh your page.

Only non-Microsoft applications will be showing.

Select the Logon tab and uncheck the following items:

    Windows Defender

    RtHDVCpl

    Google Desktop Search

    eDataSecurity Loader

    eAudio

    BkupTray

    Adobe Reader Speed Launcher

    SynTPEnh

    PLFSetI

    LManager

    ePower_DMC

    ArcadeDeluxeAgent

    CLMLServer

    PlayMovie

    NvCplDaemon

    NvMediaCenter

    ProductReg

    msnmsgr

    ehTray.exe

    Pando Media Booster

    swg

Other than your antivirus, firewall and Internet connectivity service, the Startup Type on most of your non-Microsoft Services (from programs YOU have installed), can be changed from Automatic to Manual. This will reduce the amount of processes running in the background and speed up your computer.

    Run Autoruns again.

    Select the Services tab.

Only non-Microsoft services will be showing.

    Right-click on any service.

    Click on Jump to...

You will now be at the exact registry key for that service.

In the right-hand pane, look at the DWORD Start.

The last number at the end of the entry will be either:

    (0) for Boot.

    (1) for System.

    (2) for Automatic.

    (3) for Manual.

    (4) for Disabled.

If you want to change the value, double-click on Start and change the number accordingly.

    Reboot the computer.

After rebooting, when the small System Configuration Utility window appears, ignore the message. Put a check mark in that window, then click OK.

You can also disable Windows Defender. It's pretty useless.

    How to disable Windows Defender

You can replace it with the free version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware.

I would also disable Windows Search.

Hit the Windows key + R to open a Run box. Type in services.msc

Locate the Windows Search service, double-click it and disable it.

Ok thanks for helping, I did all the Autoruns accept for ehTray and msn since they didn't appear in the list (though I turned off msn in msn) and as for the start up turning to manual on the things I'm not sure how to do that.
However one thing that didn't happen is that configuration utility sytem thing never came up at all so i dunno if anything wrong as happened or not but you said to ignore it anyways.

As for the speed it doesn't seem to have sped up much, working with windows is fine and not really laggy anymore so pressing X closes it right away etc but videos and game, even though slightly better and not mega laggy, are still rather slow and lagged up; Maplestory was still slightly laggy in lowest quality and youtube is still a bit jumpy etc.

On a good note the CPU usage is showing 100% less often although still rather high at times, reaching 65-80% usually again this is even though if you look in the processes everything say 0% sides the top ones which are mainly 1-5%.

Forget about the System Configuration Utility. I shouldn't have mentionned it. It will only show if you run that whole procedure through msconfig.

Try identifying the process hogging that CPU. When opening the Task Manager, make sure to put a check mark on Show processes from all users under the Processes tab.

    OMG!
RacAgent.exe and System Idle Process are both 40 odd % thanks for pointing out about ticking that check box lol.
    So what do I do?

Umm... seems System Idle Process is the main culprit, the other one as gone down and whilst this is flipping upto 80 and 90% sometimes.

The RacAgent.exe process is Vista's Reliability analysis metrics calculation executable.

OIC well that's at 0% now it looks like o_O
Though that idle sytem is still hitting 90%... though the overal CPU usage bar now says around 10%... o_O
I'm not sure what's with this thing lol.

It's normal for System Idle Process to be near 100% when all other processes are at (or near) 0%.

    OIC

Well I have noticed that starting my game has jumped the CPU up to 100% and that audiodg.exe as appeared up at the top of the list with about 50% usage along with the game being about 16-40%.
Though i've never had problems with it before so I dunno why but it did start lagging etc when my sound started being funny which was when all this slowness started which was inturn after the updates.

Thanks for your help the computer runs like normal without it on and the sound is normal as well BUT but but but I have no sound effects on games etc which where the main reason for this in the first place, although when it is on it's not as laggy etc (since I also defragged) the sound goes screechy like before.

So I dunno if there is a way to fix this so I can have sound effects turned on for games etc.

Lowering sound quality fixes the sound problem with sound effects on but the game is still on the laggy side at high quality were as it's normal at low quality unlike turning off sound effects all together.
Though I only turned the sound down to 24bit 44100Hz from the 96000Hz and if I go lower it dips to 16bit which I think would be just too low.

Have you tried updating your sound card driver?

It says the driver software is up to date in the device manager when I look for updates (of course this is assuming this is what you ment).
