Hi KanMan,

Go to Add/Remove Programs (in Control Panel) (Start > Control Panel > . . . )

and remove the following program from the list there:

WindUpdates

Please copy the following instructions and save them to a Notepad file on your desktop to refer to later in Safe Mode:

Download Cleanup! from here:

http://cleanup.stevengould.org/

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Click the Options... button on the right.
Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):
Empty Recycle Bins
Delete Cookies
Cleanup! All Users
Click OK
DO NOT RUN IT YET

download Killbox from here and save it to your desktop to run later:

http://www.downloads.subratam.org/KillBox.exe

don't run it yet

run HijackThis again and put a check mark next to the following entries, close all other windows and browsers (including this one) EXCEPT HijackThis, and then click "Fix Checked":

O20 - Winlogon Notify: Extensions - C:\WINDOWS\system32\q0ps0a77ed.dll

O20 - Winlogon Notify: msupdate - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\msupdate32.dll

Now boot to Safe Mode (reboot and at the black screen as it's beginning to boot, continuously tap the F8 key til you get a menu and then choose Safe Mode):

Set your computer to show hidden files and folders by doing the following:

click "Start", open "My Computer", select the "Tools" menu, and click "Folder Options."
Select the View tab.
Under the "Hidden Files and Folders" heading, select "Show Hidden Files and Folders."
Uncheck the "Hide protected operating system files (recommended)" option.
click Yes to confirm. Click OK.

Now look for and delete the following folder:

C:\Program Files\WindUpdates

Now double-click on Killbox.exe to run it.
Put a tick by Standard File Kill.
In the "Full Path of File to Delete" box, copy and paste each of the following lines one at a time.
Click on the button that has the red circle with the X in the middle after you enter each file.
It will ask for confimation to delete the file.
Click Yes.
Continue with that procedure until you have pasted all of these in the "Paste Full Path of File to Delete" box.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\q0ps0a77ed.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\msupdate32.dll

Note: It is possible that Killbox will tell you that one or more files do not exist.
If that happens, just continue on with all the files. Be sure you don't miss any.

Exit the Killbox.

Now run Cleanup!:
Click on the "Cleanup" button and let it run.
Once its done, close the program.

Restart back into Windows normally now.

Run ActiveScan online virus scan here:
http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan.htm

When the scan is finished, anything that it cannot clean have it delete it. Make a note of the file location of anything that cannot be deleted so you can delete it yourself.
- Save the results from the scan!

Post the results of the scan along with a fresh HijackThis log back here

Hi KanMan and welcome to TSG!

Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

http://www.atribune.org/downloads/l2mfix.exe
http://www.downloads.subratam.org/l2mfix.exe

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

if you receive, while running option #1, an error similar like: ''C:\windows\system32\cmd.exe
C:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt the system file is not suitable for running ms-dos and Microsoft windows applications. choose “close to terminate the application”.....then please use option 5 or the web page link in the l2mfix folder to solve this error condition. Do not run the fix portion without fixing this first.

I would prefer that you upload it here as an attachment. Did you try that?

Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.

From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter, then it will ask for a password enter bye (lowercase) then hit enter. Your desktop and icons will disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, it will be ready for a reboot. Press any key to reboot. After the reboot notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new HijackThis log.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so!

If after the reboot the log does not open double click on it in the l2mfix folder.

Rescan with HijackThis and have it delete these entries:

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page =

O20 - Winlogon Notify: msupdate - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\msupdate32.dll

O20 - Winlogon Notify: Shell Extensions - C:\WINDOWS\system32\lvl6093se.dll (file missing)

Boot to safe mode.

Run Killbox on this file:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\msupdate32.dll

Reboot and post another HijackThis log please.

In Safe Mode killbox could not delete C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\msupdate32.dll
I tried to manually delete it with no luck either.

Download Win32delfkil.exe: http://users.telenet.be/marcvn/tools/win32delfkil.exe
Save it on your desktop.
Double click on win32delfkil.exe and install it.
This creates a new folder on your desktop: win32delfkil
Close all windows, open the win32delfkil folder and double click on fix.bat.

The computer will reboot automatically.
After the reboot, the infection should be killed.

Reboot and post a fresh Hijack This log.
