Hello All - wondering if somebody could point me in the right direction. My desktop wallpaper was taken over and changed to a warning that a SpyWare threat / activity has been detected. In conjunction with this I'm getting IE popping up and directing me to a Spyaway / Perfect Cleaner advert (haven't used IE for years now!) and also fake Windows Security pop-ups from the task bar....................

I've run a few things that I usually rely upon but to no avail. I've grabbed HijackThis and have got a log which I've copied below. Please would somebody be so good as to point me towards a way to resolve these issues? Many thanks.................Sam

This installation of windows is being blocked which usually means it is not a legal install. It is using a volume licence key.
    Where did it come from?

    Go to Start
    All Programs
    Accessories
    System Tools
    Activate Windows

If available, follow the prompts to Activate Windows. If the installation was done from someone else's CD, I would suggest you backup all your documents and personal items, and restore the computer back to factory settings. It isn't wise to keep non-genuine installations.

There's no option to Activate Windows - the PC is probably four years old and was purchased from a store in the UK. I've added PCI cards, memory etc but never touched the OS?

It's unfortunate that you got caught in this situation, as happens to so many people who are not aware their systems are not genuine.

You can go back to the store where you purchased it and try to work it out with them or contact Microsoft.

Here is a forum where they can try and assist you: http://forums.microsoft.com/Genuine/ShowForum.aspx?ForumID=442&SiteID=25
