I am running Spybot S&D 1.6.2 on my good old XP for the last several years and never had any problems. This morning while checking for update the message appeared: "New free version 2.4 is available". I read some very bad reviews about new version but would like to ask you guys is it worth updating? My motto is always: "Don't fix something that is not broken" but I am also open to try a new , better and faster products if they are free. So, is the new version better or not?

Well for one thing I understand that versions starting at 2 don't include TeaTimer so if you like using that feature that's one thing to consider.

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find a changelog to see what changes are in 2.40 but the good news is that you can still download 1.6.2 if you decided to try 2.40 and don't like it so you can reinstall the older version.

Version 1.6.2 was released in January 2009 (over 6 years ago), so I have doubts about its ability to detect and remove the latest threats.

Here is the changelog for version 2.4.0.

I would think that they would have the same set of malware definitions and 2.40 didn't change much according to that changelog.

You are right, but they have regular updates and immunization every week. So far SB would usually find a few browser entries from time to time and that is it. Beside SB I also have AVG and Malwarebytes S&D and I think that's enough for casual everyday browsing. So, is there anyone who actually tried a new version?

Is there anyone who downloaded new version(2.4) and what is the verdict?
