Update your virus definitions and scan in Safe Mode
The following link can assist you in starting your computer in Safe Mode
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2001052409420406

Or , have your computer scanned at one of the following free online Virus Scanners ,
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/

If you have Kazaa Remove it in Add/ Remove Programs in the control panel , then Shutdown & Reboot your computer.

Next , Download KazaaBegone v1.01 http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/kazaabegone.zip
Unzip KazaaBegone to your Desktop , Close all browser windows and run KazaaBegone. Shutdown & Reboot your computer.

If your not running Kazaa , skip the 2 Kazaa steps and continue with the following ,

Download CWShredder , Unzip to the Desktop www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/cwshredder.zip
Close all browser windows , check the Taskbar for minimized windows as well , Run CWShredder. Shutdown & Reboot your computer.

Download and install Spybot search & destroy www.security.kolla.de Open Spybot search & destroy , Click Online , Search for updates , Download all available updates , log offline , Close all browser windows , check your taskbar for minimized windows as well , Run Spybot search & destroy , put a check in every entry Spybot search & destroy returns , Click fix problems. Shutdown & Reboot your computer.

Download Hijack This v1.97 www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/ Unzip Hijack This to your Desktop , Press Scan , Scan button becomes Save log button (Do not fix anything yet) , Save the log to the Desktop , return to this thread , Copy and Paste the log to the forum

Good luck

Ok, followed instructions, (which were excellent, thank you) to the letter, the whole process was executed perfectly, so it seemed. However...

Ran the McAfee Scan afteward, just to make sure, and it came up clean. Then, because I am a paranoid neurotic, ran Norton 2002 as well. Norton found 1 file still infected, C:\\WINDOWS\system32\mgmsqxv.exe.

What does this mean? And how should I proceed? You're assistance is so very much appreciated....

Smile420Time Actuallly, I think this is supposed to be a new thread rather than a post to my own previous thread, but I'm sure you guys will figure that out...

Unzip and open Hijack This to your Desktop , Press the scan button , scan button becomes save log button , save the log(NotePad) to the Desktop , on the NotePad toolbar click edit , select all , click edit again , then copy. Return to this thread and paste the log in the reply box

Good luck

OK, BlueSpruce...I'm quite sure you must be losing your patience with me by now, God knows I would be. Nevertheless, I appear to be copy & paste retarded. Let's just make sure I have this right...Once I get to Notepad toolbar, click Edit, Select All, Edit Again. Return to thread, paste in reply box. Assuming this is correct, I have been through the steps about 20 times and have been unable to paste into the reply box. Clearly I should have studied computers in college, rather than English... You've stuck with me this far, can you find it in your heart to stay with me? What the *@!$ am I doing wrong?

Hi Heather:)
You also need to"fix checked"on these entries.

O2 - BHO: MyWebSearch Search Assistant BHO - {00A6FAF1-072E-44cf-8957-5838F569A31D} - C:\Program Files\MyWebSearch\SrchAstt\1.bin\MWSSRCAS.DLL
O2 - BHO: myBar BHO - {0494D0D1-F8E0-41ad-92A3-14154ECE70AC} - C:\Program Files\MyWay\myBar\1.bin\MYBAR.DLL
O2 - BHO: mwsBar BHO - {07B18EA1-A523-4961-B6BB-170DE4475CCA} - C:\Program Files\MyWebSearch\bar\1.bin\MWSBAR.DLL
Files\MyWay\myBar\1.bin\MYBAR.DLL
O3 - Toolbar: My &Web Search - {07B18EA9-A523-4961-B6BB-170DE4475CCA} - C:\Program Files\MyWebSearch\bar\1.bin\MWSBAR.DLL

Re-boot/find and delete:
C:\Program Files\MyWay [FOLDER]
C:\Program Files\MyWebSearch [FOLDER]

I also notice your using both Mcafee AND Norton A/V
You would be advised to ditch one as you will get conflicts between them.
Use just the one antivirus program.

And i also dont see a firewall running:rolleyes:
Tut,Tut......you should get one ASAP.

Any problems or questions.....just ask.

Ok guys...I fixed all suggested in Hijack this, then went into Safe mode. I was able to locate and delete the MyWay and MyWebSearch folders. However, I could NOT locate and delete the file C:\WINDOWS\system32\mgmqxv.exe>file. All searchs came up with nothing. Any suggestions on exactly where to find this cursed file so I can be rid of it?

Hello again Heather:)

Post another H/T logfile and we can see if its still running.
Its possible it has been removed by one of the cleanup utilities you have scanned with.
