I've been told that "Spybot is useless!"
I tried the new version of SB 2.2I, but didn't like it at all and continued to use the previous version 1.6.
I have now uninstalled SB from my Win7 computer (after many years of use) and now just use MB and SAS (along with MSE).

Has anyone else gotten rid of SB? I notice a lot of bad reviews on the Internet for SB and saying it is not as reliable as it once was.

If you did get rid of SB, did you get anything to replace it that was free and reliable?

(AdWare Cleaner was not recommended either.)

Microsoft Security Essentials is my full-time antivirus program.

AdwCleaner and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and SUPERAntiSpyware are what I use (in that order) every 7 - 14 days to scan for and remove any threats in my computers.

This setup has worked well for me for a long time.

    Hi alicez,

    Spybot S&D No Longer Recommended

MVPS.org is no longer recommending Spybot S&D due to poor testing results. (scroll down on the web site and read under Freeware Antispyware Products)

Start, Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs (or Programs and Features) to uninstall the program.

I have a similar personal setup to Frank -- Microsoft Security Essentials as my antivirus program and Malwarebytes Antimalware to perform occasional scans with.

I use AdwCleaner if I suspect my system is infected, but I do not perform regular scans with it. It has been very effective in cases where my system (or a system I was working on) was infected.

I've found that SuperAntiSpyware isn't what it once was for ridding systems of malware, so I discontinued my use of it a few years back.

    Thank you.
I installed the ADW Cleaner, but don't see any icon on desktop, nor do I see any details in the screen that opened, such as Update / Quarantine or Vault, etc.

And if it ever did find PUP, how would you know which ones to delete

Maybe this program is not for an elderly person.

AdwCleaner is not an installable program like the others.

You download and save its AdwCleaner.exe file on the desktop, then do a "Scan" with it, then do a "Cleaning" with it.

It'll prompt you to restart your computer, then it'll display a log after Windows loads.

    Thank you.
#1- How do you know what it found?
#2- How do you know what is in Quarantine, etc.?
#3- How do you know which Pups to remove? Isn't it possible for a needed Pup to be removed?
#4- Does it find other "stuff" besides PUPS and if so, does it delete them automatically?

    It doesn't quarantine anything.

    Its cleaning process removes everything.

I don't recall any PUP's (potentially unwanted programs) that I consider "needed".

If you're afraid to use it, then don't.
