    I downloaded what I thought was a game demo a few weeks ago, only to find out it was a virus when I clicked on it. I looked through your forums and tried to fix it myself, and everything was alright for two weeks or so, but now its all back. There are random pop-ups, fake messages keep popping up on my toolbar, and every 5 minutes or som my norton antivirus keeps detecting new trojans and dialers. Here is my hijack this log:

    You should print out these instructions, or copy them to a NotePad file for reading while in Safe Mode, because you will not be able to connect to the Internet to read from this site.

    Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)
    Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

    Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
    • Restart your computer
    • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
    • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
    • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
    • Choose your usual account.
    Once in Safe Mode, open the SmitfraudFix folder again and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
    Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.

    You will be prompted: "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

    The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".

    The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart it into Normal Windows.

    A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply along with a new hijack log.

    The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

    Warning: running option #2 on a non infected computer will remove your Desktop background.

    You may want to print this or save it to notepad as we will go to safe mode.

    Add remove programs – remove MyWay Search
    ==================

    Please click here http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp to download the latest version of JAVA Install the application, then go to the Add/Remove Programs options in the Control Panel and Remove ALL previous versions of JAVA.
    ========================

    Fix these with HJT – mark them, close IE, click fix checked

    R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {4D25F926-B9FE-4682-BF72-8AB8210D6D75} - C:\Program Files\MyWaySA\SrchAsDe\deSrcAs.dll

    O3 - Toolbar: Safety Bar - {052b12f7-86fa-4921-8482-26c42316b522} - C:\Program Files\Safety Bar\Safety Bar.dll

    O16 - DPF: {3887A5F3-8FAE-4BDC-8FC4-46B506150ED8} - http://85.255.113.214/1/gdnUS2339.exe

    O16 - DPF: {4DE09278-6423-68F6-7877-774E1245051A} - http://85.255.113.214/1/gdnUS2339.exe

    DownLoad http://www.downloads.subratam.org/KillBox.zip

    Restart your computer into safe mode now. (Tapping F8 at the first black screen) Perform the following steps in safe mode:

    Double-click on Killbox.exe to run it. Now put a tick by Standard File Kill. In the "Full Path of File to Delete" box, copy and paste each of the following lines one at a time then click on the button that has the red circle with the X in the middle after you enter each file. It will ask for confimation to delete the file. Click Yes. Continue with that same procedure until you have copied and pasted all of these in the "Paste Full Path of File to Delete" box.

    C:\Program Files\MyWaySA
    C:\Program Files\Safety Bar

    Note: It is possible that Killbox will tell you that one or more files do not exist. If that happens, just continue on with all the files. Be sure you don't miss any.

    START – RUN – type in %temp% - OK - Edit – Select all – File – Delete

    Delete everything in the C:\Windows\Temp folder or C:\WINNT\temp

    Not all temp files will delete and that is normal
    Empty the recycle bin
    Boot and post a new log from normal NOT safe mode

    Please give feedback on what worked/didn’t work and the current status of your system

    I did what you said in your last post and everything was removed except for
    R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {4D25F926-B9FE-4682-BF72-8AB8210D6D75} - C:\Program Files\MyWaySA\SrchAsDe\deSrcAs.dll. When I went to delete that with Hijack this, it was not there to be deleted.

    After completing those instructions, I restarted my computer and for a little while everything was fine. Later, however, I began to begin recieving the same Norton Antivirus messages for different viruses. One of the ones that appears the most is for a virus called Dialer.Generic. Every time Norton Antivirus scans, it is unable to remove this virus, because access to the file is denied. There are also some other assorted virus messages for a trojan.

    Finally, there are a considerable number of pop-ups when I use internet explorer. This is not a huge deal because my homepage is not hijacked, and I ususally use firefox anyways, but perhaps it will help with you diagnostic. Thanks for the help so far.

    Well, everything was ok for a little while, but now I keep getting the norton anitvirus alets for the Dialer.Generic virus again, and every time it says that it is unable to resolve the issue. The fake alerts on the taskbar are gone, which is good. Overall though, my computer seems to be running slower than usual, and it constantly freezes, requiring me to restart it. Also, my firefox browser has been crashing a lot, which hasn't happened before.

    DownLoad EasyCleaner http://www.majorgeeks.com/download414.html

    Use the clear files and Unnecessary files buttons – I do not recommend
    using the Duplicates files button
    as many dupes are there on purpose.

    Not all files will delete – that is normal.

    In the unnecessary button I check the top 4 entries
    ==================

    Use Killbox to delete

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\cool.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\wingdm32.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\ljjiiig.dll

    I used Easy Cleaner twice. Each time it froze after a little while, but it deleted hundreds of files. I put the three different files into killbox. The cool file was deleted, but C:\WINDOWS\system32\wingdm32.dll was unable to be deleted, and it said that C:\WINDOWS\system32\ljjiiig.dll did not exist.
