I have a backup prodesure that is failing every time. The backup runs for 2 hours (which it's supposed to) but fails at the very end.

The logs indicate an 'single user mode' error. Doing a bit of research I found these 2 possibilities:

1) That error is generally unrelated to the actual problem. If the Db is set to 'simple recovery mode' instead of 'full recovery mode'. Changing this flag should clear the problem. My transaction log would grow, but shrinking it on a regualr basis would correct that.

2) There may be a flag that is set to "Attempt to repair any minor problems" int he integrity tab. If this is selected, it requires the Db to be in single user mode, and the backup fails.

I haven't looked at any of these yet, (I'm waiting for one last backup attempt to finish or fail) but wanted to check in here to see if there were any people who have experienced the same problem.

What SQL are we talking about here? If it is MS SQL are you attempting to use the built in backup utility in SQL Admin?
