start device

I have recently installed a new sound card, but the properties screen says" device enabled but not started" how do I start the device? im running windows xp home. the sound card is by creative, SOUND BLASTER AUDIGY. can you assist with this?

Not sure if you tried this Go to Start> control panel >Administrative Tools > Select "Services" Scroll down the list and go down to the "windows audio" service. If the service is on disabled or manual; right click and select "properties" under "startup type" change to "automatic"- click apply. click "start" and Reboot.

I tried that. Still nothing.I wish these programs had an option to "start" that way we ( dummies like me) could use them.

ive tried everything i can think of. the only thing that the screen says is working properly, or not started

Where did you get the driver for the card? If it came with it, it is probably old or even the very first release. Check for the most recent one at their site. There is no way you can "start" the device yourself. The driver should be doing that, provided everything is connected as it should be.

I got the disc with the sound card. I have tried to update drivers but nothing works. When I do dxdiag, the sound card wors on the "music" page, but not on the "sound" page
