I just acquire a Sony Vaio Lap Top Model PCG-6G4L. It make a very loud sound on start up and/or shut down, otherwise the sound isfine. How can I reduce the start up loudness?

If you go to the Control Panel and the Sounds and Audio Devices you can change or remove the audio file that is played on shutdown and on startup - it might not be the default sound. Not sure why it would be louder then any of the other audio unless the volume is set to the max for WAV files in the Volume control, also under Sounds and Audio Devices, and other audio/playback programs have the volume turned down with the volume control of each of those programs.

Sorry, I don't know what it could be. Is this during Windows that you hear these loud sounds or before Windows even begins to load?
