Starting Over

    Can anyone walk me through on re formatting my computer and adding evertyhing back on so where I have windows again

    First, what windows are you running and do you have a boot disk for it?

    Yes i do have a boot disk and i am running windows 98 second edition. First of all do you know anything about computers funny i asked but just want to make sure .. hehe

    Right. Are you doing this on another comp or on the one ur using?

    Just Checking.

    Ok. insert the boot disk and start the computer. You will get a message asking if you want to boot with cdrom support, say no. You should then be taken to the command prompt, where you will see A:> at the prompt type format C: and hit enter, press y and hit enter again when it ask if ur sure. It should now start formatting the drive C.

    after that, restart the comp with the boot disk, but this time say yes to the cdrom support. It will set up virtual drive letters for however many cdroms u have connected. Insert the windows installation cd into the cdrom. At the A:> prompt type E: (this is usually the first cdrom.) Now type setup. If E: is the cdrom that the cd is in, then windows will begin to setup.

    All you have to do then is to follow the on screen instructions.

    I starting wondows setup and was around 41 mins left and its at this screen upgrade compliance check
    I put in the windows 98 boot disk and I have 98 2nd end cd in and i click set up and it says I cant????
    i never had a problem before with my windows

    Ive never had a prob installing windows 98se either.

    Try installing again.

    i tried again and its telling me that upgrade compliance check is the product you must own the product. i own it i bought it.it say if your not the linses owner contact microsoft?????

    Id get in contact with microsoft in that case and tell them whats happening.

    As i say ive never had a problem installing 98se and ive done it loads of times on various setups.

    Sorry bout this.
