 My computer crashes and restarts 3-4 times when I turn it on. This started on the 30th of Sept. 03. Any ideas? windows98SE, Pent2, 198RAM, 15.8GB-HD

Update your anti-virus. Or scan on-line for virus, Trojan or variant at Trend Micro Free On-line Scan Does your computer boot up to Normal Windows at all? Can you boot to Safe Mode?

(tap F8 five times per second during a restart; Choose option number three (3) in the Windows Startup dialog box using the arrow keys below the Delete key, and strike the Enter key; Click OK when prompted).

Run a updated virus scan in there. Have you updated your anti-virus weekly as required? Excellent free anti-virus products are available. Just ask me.

Do you have a free firewall installed like Sygate?

    What anti-virus are you using?

Go to http://tomcoyote.org/hjt/ and download HiJackThis. Use Winzip to unzip it, then install and run it. To run, click the ?Scan? button. When it's done the "Scan" button changes to "Save Log". Save the log file it creates (it should open in Notepad at that point). Copy and paste the results in your next post. Most of what it finds is harmless, so do not do anything yet. Someone will be glad to help you sort out any of the baddies that may be in there.

IF you get an error saying msvbvm60.dll is missing,
Download the and run MS visual basic 6.0 runtime files

Yes, it finally does bootup, but runs slow. I have McAfee with live update and run it once a week. It found something last month which was deleted. I don't use a firewall. I just downloaded spybot yesterday and ran it, WOW I had alot of crap in the log, still this AM it restarted 2 times before it got things right. It's really scaring me. I'm affraid one morning it simply will not bootup!!! I NEVER open attachments in my mail. But I do get an awful lot of junk mail from my website address www.naturesherbal.com. Is there anything going around that can infect my computer without opening an attachment? I will try both suggestions and list the files from Hyjack this today here and thanks for all the help! Be back shortly.

Trend Micro Housecall says no viruses found! Maybe I just need to take this thing apart and clean the cobwebs out!
