Startup problem: When I start up my desktop computer, it will usually just load up to the point of my desktop background, no icons or start bar will appear and it will just sit at the desktop background. I then I have to do a hard restart and try booting up again. Once in a while it will load up like normal, with the icons and start bar appearing, but this is very rare (about 1 out of 10 boots on average.) Also I can't seem to enter Safe Mode when I boot up.

Internet Problem: When I start up my internet (through my mobile broadband USB stick) it will only work for a few minutes and then the internet will lose connectivity and I will get a problem saying

"Generic Host Process for Win32 Services Has Encountered A Problem"

after this I can no longer connect to the internet. I have to restart the computer again if I want to connect to the internet, and I have to endure the startup problem (as described above.)

I have tried downloading a fix from Microsoft (KB894391) but it doesn't work. Hope someone can help me fix these problems. These problems seemed to happen after I updated to Service Pack 2 and also tried to update my graphics card drivers.

Most members will not reply to a post that contains a Hijack This log, because we aren't supposed to assist with Malware issues unless approved to do so.

I don't suspect malware in this case, so I would run msconfig, and in the list of Startup items uncheck all of them except Avast. Don't make any changes to Services. If your computer starts running properly, try re-enabling the startup items one at a time to see if one of them is causing the problem.

Thanks, I'll give it a go. I can see how that'll be related to the startup problem, but do you think it's connected to the Generic Host Process problem too?

I actually did a system restore yesterday back to Feb, before I installed SP2 + graphics card drivers and it seemed to have improved things.
