I have a windows xp home issue that is not showing my desktop icons , taskbar or start menu ,but I can ctrl+alt+del.
to still use my pc and operate almost evreything..

So far, I have done the following:

attempt to run explore.exe or explorer.exe on windows task bar but that doesn't work.
tryed to do a system restore but the clock will not let me go back no more than the present day,my problem happend 3 days back
    scanned anti-virus with various programs
scanned for malware, spyware with various programs
ran crap cleaner, cleaned the registery
also ran the full windows disc full set up over the top to try and repair anything which may have went missing
done a file search thrugh windows to see if anythings missing
tryed a few other little bits n bobs
also i have my mouse cursor on my desktop, but cannot right click to bring up any menus

i was reciving a dvd program which transfares files to diffrent formats through xfire from a freind, around about the time this happened, i got a possible trojan alert in windows defender, so i blocked it.......
also i v did nothing to the pc, not added hardwear or software, not unplugged or plugged anything..
none of these things have helped...

evreythings still om my pc as i can use stuff through the task manager, which is a right hassle, they all show up when i first start up the pc, or try opening programs, but they disapear after 2 or 3 seconds..
reformats only gonna be done if all else fails, there must be a fix out there somewhere, all help appreciated, my heads done in lol

ps i dont have a windows disk so re formatting isnt an option at the moment...

    :)

Try booting into safe mode and uninstall few latest applications you installed.
