Hey everyone, I've had Steam for quite a while now. I used to play it all the time until April. In April, I think that was when Counter Strike:Source updated and the game started getting laggy. I've tried absolutly everything I could think of and what Steam has told me to do. I've updated all drivers on my video card and sound card and BIOS on the motherboard. I've figured out that it's not a internet thing because this has happened on my friend's cable connection. I know its not internet also because it happens to me on Half Life 2 when I play, but mostly when there's action going on. I've turned down my hardware acceleration, didn't work. I ran the diagnostics from Steam, i disabled ATI Hotkey Poller and that didn't work. I can't install Omega drivers because I have Windows XP Pro x64. I don't think its my OS because when I had regular Pro, it was the same. I've completely reinstalled my whole computer with everything and it still does this. I'm really sure its the software because it doesn't do this in BF2, while I'm running everything High there. I tried running 3dmark to give some support there, but my cpu keeps overheating and shutting down before I get a score. I've gone to pcpitstop.com and they say I have poor video and poor cpu performance. I'm running a P4 640 3.2ghz w/HT using the 64 bit on a ECS RS400-A with a Radeon x850 xt. And now, I've created a HiJackThis log:

Don't worry anyone. I figured out my problem.....sort of on accident. I just got 3dMark Pro and tried running that, and my cpu was getting overheated and shutting down...a LOT, almost to the point to where i had to wait a while to turn the computer back on. So, I went out and bought and installed a new Thermaltake heatsink and 3dMark Pro ran without a hitch. So then I went to try out Steam and boy o boy, my fps shot over 100 in no time. It was 2am in the morning and here i was shouting. Might have woke the neighbors up. :D Anyway, maybe the Moderator can take note of this for anyone who is desperate as me in getting Steam games to work.
