Has anyone here used Steve Gibson's DCOMBOBULATOR? It's a program for securing or disabling DCOM. Well, I have been getting DCOM, error #10005 in event viewer (System) off and on for quite a while. Today I discovered the error occurs when MS Money 2003 is closed. I d/l and ran subject program, and disabled DCOM. I've verified again that DCOM is disabled, but still I get the error with Money. Everything I have seen about this program on Google is very positive, and knowing Steve Gibson's reputation, I don't believe he'd put an ineffective program on the net. So I can't understand why this error continues. My OS is XP Home. Any ideas?

I'm with you in that I know and trust Steve's site. I've not got a clue on the error you are getting, but I'm thinking there is something foul with the d/l? Can you uninstall the program and see if all is well. If so, then you can try d/l it again if you like.

My default reaction when I know not what the problem may be is to uninstall what I think the source may be. Make sense? It's a thought.

Hi BillC-- Program may be a misnomer here. It's only 27kb. I d/l and ran 3 times. The first time I used it to disable DCOM. The next two times I used it to check DCOM. It indicates DCOM is totally disabled. I'm aware that DCOM errors are really meaningless (benign), however the red X in Event Viewer bugs me. Only MS Money has ever given me the error, so it may be something in that program that overrides the disabling temporarily??????

I finally checked the registry, and DCOM is disabled. So I guess the question really is : What in MS Money is trying to use DCOM?
