    computer running very slow
Our daughter has given us her older IBM Think Pad #600X, and I am trying to get it working better so my husband can use it for limited internet (he's not much into that part) and play games off line.
It has a Pentium III processor
    256 kilobyte secondary memory cache
    32 kilobyte primary memory cache
    running XP Pro
    Here are the problems:
    1. Very slow response,
    2. Frequent 'this program is not responding'
    3. Only 10,0 Mbps connection on dsl (our desk top runs at 100.0 Mbps).

I have installed/run Avg, Spybot Search & Destroy, have done disk cleanup, defrag, and removed all the unused programs.
I am including the HJT report I ran a few days ago.

Thanks for what advice you can give to speed this "almost antique" computer

My first instinct says it could be a conflict among Zone Alarm/Windows Defender/AVG/Ad-Aware somewhere. There are two instances of Dr. Watson at startup as well, maybe that could be it.

personal experience with avg8 on older less ram machines has been problematic for me. We could not get any response at all from my mothers comp with it installed. I changed her back to avg7.5 (its still updates daily at the moment) and plan or trying avast or avira (both free) when they finally stop the support for avg 7.5.
