    Hi:

Don't know if this is the right place to post this question but will give it a try.

I'm very concerned about the billions of bullets that are being ordered by the US government in advance of the November election. Call me an alarmist but I want to go invisible on the net. I've stupidly (in hindsight) made some critical comments about the current government at a couple of news sites -- nothing inflammatory, just political comments. Now, I wish I had refrained from that, and would like to find something that can essentially close the barn door after the horse has bolted. Plus guard my computer and identity in the future.

Complicating this, all of my accounts are online as I currently live overseas. My bank account is in the States and my credit cards are all registered to my US address. It is nearly impossible where I live now to establish a regular checking account so getting rid of my US bank is not an option. Also, I'm registered to vote.

Most of the info and programs I've come across deal with security from cyber attacks. That's not what I'm interested in. I want something that will make me as much of a ghost as possible. I keep reading about people who successfully cloak their identity but have never come across the names of the programs that accomplish that.

Is there such a program -- or programs ?

    Thanks,
    PH

If you have the stamina to read some occasionally technical stuff, have a look here: http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=332390 and here: https://www.techsupportalert.com/best-free-anonymous-surfing-service.htm

Until I glanced through some of this, I'd always assumed that I could never evade my ISP's logging activities and my paranoia level has never reached the point where I could be bothered to try. I might just look into it a little more closely in the future, although, if we believe what we see in films and TV, all those satellites, listening posts and supercomputers can hear/read and decrypt anything they want 24/7!

It reminds me of the Vogon character in 'The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy' telling the people of Earth that 'resistance is useless'.

I don't know exactly what you're looking for, but if you have a bank account, credit cards, an e-mail address, a mailing address, and a computer, you're not invisible from anything.

Going off the grid requires a cash-only lifestyle using pre-paid SIMs or Internet cafes. There's certainly nothing you can do to eradicate your previous comments. They'll exist forever on the site you posted them on permanently tied to an IP address which is linked to your ISP account with your name, address, and payment method.

Thanks, Togg. I'll give those sites a whirl. And thanks to you also, Double Helix, for responding, even tho the news wasn't very good.

Anonymous web surfing isn't even close to living off the grid.

You have to decide how much anonymity you're willing to live with.

    pblju,

Please do not tack onto someone else's thread. If you need help with something please start a new thread of your own as it's too complicated addressing more than one person at a time. Thanks for understanding.

    Closing thread.
