One day while doing some heavy 3d editing, my computer's Video card crashed. it recovered right away, but it seems that there is something with the icons that wasn't normally there. There appears to be a line around the outer border of some of the icons on the desktop. All of the icons in the image were there before and after the video card crashed, and the line remains around the icon or not around it, wherever it is moved. This occurs with and without Aero effects, and it both happens and doesn't happen to items that are placed on the desktop. After a restart, all items that had is, still have it, and all items that don't, still don't. I've attached an image of this to the post with icons that do, and don't have the line around it.

I figure it's more of a software than a hardware issue, and it's not a problem, just an annoyance. So if no one knows the issue here, I'll just end up dealing with it.

    It's on a Windows 7 (obviously) 64 bit. Intel core 2 duo T6600 (2.2GHz 64 bit). It's the Toshiba Satellite A505 Laptop.

Thats odd, if you move the position of the icons does the box around the icons follow the icon? Have you tried reinstalling your video card drivers?

yes, and yes. it only happens to some things, and if it does happen to one, even if it's removed from the desktop and placed back later, it still has it, and visa-versa with the ones that don't show it.

Just for grins, change your color depth then change it back
Click Start, type Display in the Search box.
Select Change Display Settings under Control Panel when it appears
    Click Advanced Settings
    Click the Monitor tab
At the bottom, change Colors to a different setting and click Apply.
The screen may go black for a few seconds, then you'll be asked if you want to keep the settings; click Yes. )If you don't see this box, do nothing, and after 15 seconds the setting will revert).
If you switch to High color (16 bit) Aero will be turned off, it will be re-enabled when you switch back to True color (32 bit) or higher.

After clicking Yes, change it back and click Apply.

This should force a rebuild of the icon cache, and may clear this up.

Well, here's another guess, don't know if it will help:

Click Start, type SystemPropertiesAdvanced, press Enter
Click the Settings button in the Performance section.
If Custom is selected, note the settings so you can restore them
Select Adjust for best performance. This should uncheck everything.
    Click Apply
Select Adjust for best appearance. This should check everything.
    Click Apply
Put the setting back where it was, then click OK until you are back to the Desktop, see if that helped.
