I hope someone can give me a recommendation as to what to do with a 1TB SATA (firmware: SD15) Seagate drive I bought in June 2008. I have been using it as my main data drive in my PC (storing my documents, media, and Firefox profile information). Yesterday I booted and it disappeared from my computer and my system locked up. It turned out that a couple of files on the drive could not be opened, and when I launched my FF profile, it would "die." Now, it would keep spinning, but I couldn't read or write anything to it. Rebooting didn't do anything. SpinRite would crash after a certain point in its run of level 2.

I got everything I could off of it (all that I cared about). Should I try for a warranty? I'm not even sure if it is still covered.

The issue seems really low level to me.
