My home internet has been working fine for years for me and my roommate. Our setup is that we get internet from Time Warner Cable/Spectrum. We have a cable modem connected to a router. My roommate connects his laptop to an ethernet port of the router. A Roku streamer is connected to another router port. I use the router's wifi to connect my laptop and iPhone. My laptop is a Lenovo ThinkPad T410s (system info below), and my roommate's laptop is also a Lenovo, but with a Linux OS.
All of a sudden last month we started to have internet connection issues as follows:
- When my roommate uses his laptop with router ethernet port or wifi, connection becomes extremely slow and intermittent for all devices on the network.
- When my roommate does not connect his laptop, the wifi works just fine for all devices connected (I have not tested the ethernet with my laptop or Roku in this case).
- When disconnecting the router and connecting straight to the modem ethernet port, neither my laptop or my roommate's can get an internet connection. Our internet settings show "cable unplugged" even though it is well plugged with light on next to port. This is the most puzzling.
- I called Spectrum, and they say everything looks fine on their end with the connection getting to our modem ok.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
