Hi I have an acer aspire 4750 (running windows 7) that I cannot get to connect to the internet. The wireless and the LAN are not connecting they are just saying identifying. When I say they are not connecting I mean to the net not my router. I know that the net is working as I am using it now to type this message with another computer. Recently my computer stopped working and I had to run a check and fix through DOS. I am also having a problem printing and do not know if the items are related. I have reinstalled the LAN driver to see if it was that but nothing changed, device manager is telling everything is fine. Please help I am having a nightmare in work using 2 laptops for different things now.

    Cheers
I have run a diagnistics through network connections and it says something about a proxy, but I am not using a proxy...strange

Open a (black) Command Prompt window:
Hold the Windows logo key and press r; in the Run box type cmd and click on OK.

    Type the following command:

    IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

Shouldn't this be moved to Networking? :D

Also do you have any internet security software like Norton?

The Media disconnected for the ethernet could be a defective cable or NIC or router LAN port.

For the wireless try with encryption disabled on the router.

What was the check and what was the fix?

Below is the Configeration for my other laptop, it is a copaque presario. At 7 years old a much nicer laptop than my acer. As a side note would it be expensive to update my compaque with memory and processor?

Would this be easier for me to just wipe the computer and reinstall windows? I never like to do this as i am always worried that I will lose some work pictures that I have forgotten to back up.

That second PC has a 10/100 Mbps ethernet adapter, which uses only four wires. Gigabit ethernet (the 1st PC) uses all eight wires. So, the cable could possibly be defective.

I have no idea. Did I miss the answer to Couriant's question:

I have changed the wire to the computer and changed the connection on the router box we have, and the cable works in my other computer. My acer seems to be stuck in a loop of Identifying (both the broadcom and atheros adapters). If i run a diagnostic through windows 7 it can't find a problem with the broadcom, but says there may be a problem with the adapter for the wireless

Uninstall Avast and run their Uninstall Utility. You can reinstall it after testing.
