I recently bought my son a D-Link DWA-25 USB Wireless adapter for his desktop but I can't seem to get it to work. Not matter what I do (I have tried every bit of advice this wonderful forum has to offer) and so for all I get is "Acquiring Network Address." When I run ipconfig, it returns and ip address of 0.0.0.0 and a subnet mask of 0.0.0.0. Customer service for D-Link and Qwest were useless (spent most of the time blaming each other), so any help you guys and gals can lend me would be stupendous.

    (from a JohnWill post)

IP addresses of 0.0.0.0 are normally caused by one of the following.

    Diagnosis:
    1. DHCP Service not running.
    2. Duplicate IP address on the network.
    3. Bad NIC card drivers.
    4. Defective NIC hardware.

    Resolution:
    1. Check Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services. The DHCP Client service should be Started and its Startup Type should be Automatic.
    2. Turn off ALL of the computers and other network connected devices, reboot the router, then restart all the computers and other network devices.
    3. Check for upgraded drivers and/or reload the Network drivers.
    4. Replace the Network Interface Card.

Thanks for the quick response! I've tried most of your suggestions, but I am unclear about replacing the network interface card. If you could explain that to me a bit more I would greatly appreciate it.

I tried doing a ipconfig /renew but it was unable to execute the command as it timed out. NOt sure if that info is helpful or not.

Tell the retailer they sold you a D-Link DWA-25 USB Wireless adapter that was Dead on Arrival and you want a replacement or your money back. Try it on a different computer first to get a second opinion. :)
