My friends computer keeps giving him this error when ever he tries to install something:

The install shield engine (ikernel.exe) could not be installed. The folder C:/program files/common files could not be created. Make sure that you have the appropriate privileges to create this folder(0xa1)

    Error installing ikernel.exe:0x20000

His computer is Windows 98. We ran a search and got many answers like to install DCOM 98 or get an updated Ikernel.exe. Even to delete the common files folder and empty the C:/Windows/Temp folder. None of them worked and most of the sites say there is something wrong with the installshield and usually tell how to fix the problem on XP and not 98. If anybody has ever had this problem before can you PLEASE help!
