I've gotten that before with Google searches. It's common if you do an excessive amount of searches as they fear it could be a DoS (Denial of Service) attack by bots or if you use a VPN or a proxy server. It can take a while for it to go away once it starts but I don't think it's something you can accelerate.

I get captchas all the time. I do have a VPN. For awhile there I would have to go through numerous pictures picking out stuff. Would sometimes just give up. I am using Firefox. I switched to Opera which didn't help.
But, recently it has improved. I often have to do one captcha now, but I can live with that.
You may just have to be patient.

Searches work fine once I'm past the captcha. The "Why did this happen?" thing is useless.

Here's what I get when I click "why did this happen?". I have 2 ea Chromcast on TVs and 1 Roku. Those shouldn't be sending out requests violating terms of service. Have been in place for several years, so why suddenly a problem. I'm the only user on network other than wife's iPad and a few printers.

Edit: well, ok. I can live with it or just work from google window. I do do a lot of searches :). Just an inquisitive guy, plus chasing down several PC and internet* probs at same time. See other Win10 post re Windows blocking .exe executions, so can't update Epson scanner driver. Can't run an .exe file. All details on the other thread.

Thanks for everyone's response on this! I'll close ticket.

Edit: no VPN or proxy server, BTW.

PS: AT&T just got my internet back up after a week down by reducing the speed 15% to 4-5meg. Thanks for nothing. Was running mostly fine near 7meg for years. The good news is his visit was free.

For extensions:

Close tabs
disable HTML5 video
LastPass

WhatFont is disabled.

Captcha has occurred too from a basic Google search window as opposed to my usual Chrome URL address bar. But not consistently.

I do do a lot of google searches. I mean a lot! Maybe that's it? I'm always researching one thing or another. How to repair a fly rod, how to change a Subaru cabin filter, what's the best bonsai potting mix, ... the list is endless.

I'm going to call this thread a wrap unless someone has a great idea.

Thanks all!

You're going to just have to stop doing searches for a day or so until they stop unfortunately.

Yes, will do that. Thanks.

Router is the AT&T 5268ac modem-router combo standard issue.

From what I can tell, it looks like Google servers have flagged your IP address as a potential security risk due to traffic online which, coming from your line or heading towards your computer contained virus, malware or even infected email. Since a fresh Windows 10 install was done on your computer and you are still getting the Captchas upon doing a search on Chrome, resetting your IP address should be considered. It is best to contact your ISP regarding this. They can reset your router's IP address. If this is the case, the Captchas should stop coming upon every search. Also, make sure your computer's DNS IP address is correct. Your ISP would be able to ensure you can stop getting continuously Captchas using Chrome upon making any search.
