Sounds like a modem problem. Can you log into it and check its settings?

Has anything happened to it lately? Do other machines connect OK?

Has anything happened to the computer?

I connect wirelessly to the modem, and other members in the household are not having any problems. So I assume it is my computer. Nothing has happened to it recently.

Your adapter's antenna may be loose or broken or the contacts corroded. (Since I have no idea what kind of wireless adapter you have this may be nonsense.)

My wireless adapter is part of my HP Pavillion DV2000 laptop and just has a sliding switch to turn on and off.

If you can access the adapter by removing a cover on the bottom of the laptop make sure the antenna leads are secure.
